Helping Grandpa

Aerya is a fantastic helper. No matter what you are doing, Aerya can help with it. Here she is with Grandpa fixing the lawnmower. What was so cool was that she could hand him the tools by name or color when he asked for them. And just like I remember from when I was a child, he was ever so patient while explaining what they did and just what he was doing.

Rachel & Aly's Wedding

What a beautiful day! Though there were some timing mishaps the day went so well. The venue was gorgeous, and I would love to see it again later in the fall when all the leaves turn.

Rachel and Aly looked amazing and had that loving glow about them. We are so grateful to have been able to share their day with them.

Though Aerya was not thrilled with having to wait in her dress, she finally pulled herself together to (sortof) walk down the aisle. It litteraly was at the last second that we ran to get there before Rachel had walked down, but everyone was quite understanding of the temperment of a two-year-old who sat for over an hour.
After that, the ceremony went smoothly.

Andrea and I kept laughing about the guys being "back-together-again." Immediately thier IQs dropped about 25 points (each) and the conversations turned quicly to that which is better suited to the frat house. That being said though, Kathy, Andrea & I left them alone for 1.5 hours while we took Aerya home and they were mostly in one piece when we returned. There was their little talking to by the golf cart security that we'll just ignore. (Think of a tame tailgate party...at a wedding...)

We all reminisced, laughed, and laughed some more. Click here to see the rest of the pictures from the day. http://www.new.facebook.com/album.php?aid=76732&l=242ef&id=519351118

GIANT Pickle

For those of you who know about Aerya's obsession with pickles, you can well imagine her response to discovering a deli that sells GIANT pickles!

Grocery List

Here's Aerya helping out at the grocery store. You can imagine what's on her list!

Bribery at it's best

Aerya absolutely HATES having her hair washed. We have tried everything we can think of to wash her hair in the bath. We've bought hats, special rinsing cups, no tears shampoo, having her lay down in the water, having her standing up, letting her do the rinsing...the list just goes on and on. All to no avail though.

At the beginning of every bath she would look up at us with huge frightened eyes and say "No hair, no eyes?!" as in please don't wash my hair and get water (and soap) in my eyes. We could not convince her that if she sat/layed still the water would not go onto her face at all. She would thrash like a mad woman from the moment she sensed the shampoo was coming.

We went to washing her hair every other night, then every three nights and it was still torture. Finally, I'd had enough. I said NO MORE to washing her hair in the bath. From now on, we're doing it in the kitchen sink. Aerya continued to ask about the "No hair, no eyes?!" for a couple of weeks, then stopped; finally reassured that her baths were now safe.

But of course we still had the issue of washing the hair, now just in a new location. That's when I broke out the tried and true last option of every parent: bribery. I told Aerya that if she let me wash her hair in the kitchen sink with the veggie sprayer that we'd give her a dilly bar from DQ.

She was apprehensive, but interested. She "volunteered" Orange Kitty to go first. I washed and rinsed his hair with "No eyes!" Aerya was almost convinced. She laid down on the counter, but as soon as the sprayer turned on she started thrashing. We finally held her down and got it done with "No eyes!"

She was happy with the results, but understandably upset by the process. Then excited by the prize. She now will let me wash her hair in the sink with 3 provisions:
1. I have to show her the dilly bar first (and she might want to hold it). That kid is smart!
2. Orange kitty has to go first.
3. She wants to hold my hand for a while once the water has been turned on.

Once again, bribery is demonstrated to be a great parenting technique.

That's not so good...

Derek & I were folding laundry and I got the bright idea to pull Aerya around in the basket like a car. She also thought it was a bright idea.
Alright, she's a bit top heavy. I'll have to keep that in mind for next time. But, she's a total trooper and it takes quite a bit for her to get hurt.
Hmm, yeah that really wasn't so good. Her head smucked the pony wall. But being the rough and tumble kid she is (plus the head injury...), she wanted to go again. But with no owwie this time.
Seriously! Will I never learn! Everyone does say that I'm a terrible driver!
Finally, Aerya discovers the safest way to travel in this car: as the driver!

McDono's Park?

Aerya loves, loves, loves to go to McDonald's and play in their playground. We have a fabulous outdoor park across the street from us, and we take her to both Servus Place and O'Leary's indoor playgrounds, but anytime you ask her what she'd like to do for the day, she'll say "McDono's Park?"

Here she is playing with a boy she met. It's super cute when there's older kids there (especially girls) because they always want to take her around and "help" her climb up. Aerya loves this and runs right to us as soon as she slides down to say that "Little girl help me!"

As Chad recently discovered though, Aerya is more than able to pull herself up the tower and play around on her own. And no, she doesn't get stuck and need one of us to climb in after her (at least not anymore!)
